Put a Stamp On It

Hooray today is my day for the Put a Stamp On It blog hop.

A great big hug goes out to Madame Samm for hosting and Thearica from Pigtales and Quilts  for being our cheerleader.

Here is today's line up:

When I saw this blog hop I thought it may be interesting, but then committing was very tough for me.  I finally stamped in with both feet.

Sorry about the pictures.  Days and days of sun and humidity with storms in the evening and the day I want to take pictures, we are having torrential downpours so pictures were taken in the sunroom.
I came up with two ideas. The first project I saw these very cute pincushions called the Square Deal pincushion.  I wanted something similar but with my own spin.

I created my Portland stamp pincushion.

I grew up outside of Portland, Oregon in a small town called Gresham.  How I ended up in the Midwest still amazes me. (That is a whole other story!)  Portland is called "The City of Roses"  there is even have a Rose Festival every year with a grand floral parade, Rose Festival Princesses and a Queen chosen from the High Schools within the City of Portland, a milk carton boat race, just to name a few of the fun activities. The festival has been going for over 100 years.

I used the pattern for the square deal, but made mine a wee bit larger. I found this great pattern for the fabric roses at Calamity Kim.  One turned out cute, but the other I messed with too much and so it didn't turn out as cute.  The stamp is 5 cents because that was the price of a stamp the year I was born in Portland Oregon. Portland, Oregon, and the .05 cents were embroidered with one strand of embroidery floss, the edge was finished with a "fancy stitch" on my sewing machine, and the pin cushion was filled with shredded scraps of batting, and chick grit.

My other idea was another mug rug to match the one I made for DH for father's day.

I used some John Deere fabric which I have waiting for a special project,  my newly acquired skills with my EZ Dresden ruler, and printing on fabric to create this stamp.  My new hometown is Carleton, Michigan which is south of Detroit.  I share an old farmhouse which was built by my DH's great, great grandfather a 150 years ago, that is before the Civil War!  I stuck with my 5 cent stamp and used the John Deere colors of green and yellow using tiny scraps from my stash.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope you enjoyed the hop so far.  To celebrate my first blog hop, and my 100th blog post I am going to give away a $10 gift certificate from The Fat Quarter Shop.  Leave a comment with a way to contact you and a random winner will be selected on July 5th.

  22. adorable stamps! John Deere equipment has a special place in our hearts - my Dad was a heavy equipment Master Mechanic on road building projects. When he wasn't fixing the machines he would do the side embankments with a John Deere dozer. His John Deere hat was his favorite!

    1. Awe thanks for the sweet comment. DH is a heavy mechanic. The antique John Deere tractors, and my vintage sewing machines are his passion when it comes to tinkering around the house. DH saw a John Deere dozer in Northern California when we were there in January.

He was so cute....do you think we could just go and buy it? Me: Um no it is the middle of winter how are you going to get it back to Michigan? Drive it. Can't you find one a wee bit closer?
