Thankfulness and Community

I will let you in on a secret.  I am terribly shy.  People often misinterpret my quiet personality as being unfriendly.  Maybe it is something ingrained on my culturally but if you sit back and listen you will learn many things.  I live far away from my family, and moved far away from all the people, and places I knew for the majority of my life.   I am not affiliated with any organizations, and lets face it the older you are the harder it is to meet new people.  I would love to go to a quilt guild meeting, but something always seems to come up, I will go out of my way to go to Quilt shows, new quilt shops, and I have really stretched my wings by blogging and taking a class.  I started blogging as a way to meet a community of people who I have something in common with.  I am going to set a new goal for myself this next year.  I am going to go to a guild meeting, and maybe I will go and join one of the LQS sit and stitch that they have on Fridays.  I am thankful for the online community of quilters.  I can share my love of quilting, learn new techniques and I get great encouragement.  Thank you everyone who takes the time to put yourself out there and teach, share, and inspire.

I spent hours today sewing and don't feel like I made a ton of progress.  But then again with over 300 squares to mark diagonals.

I sewed some of these.
These ones are all trimmed up even.

I sewed some of these.

And a couple of these
Which when it is all said and done should look kind of like this.
I still have a whole stack of these to mark.
And I am ending up with a whole bunch of these.
I need to find something to do with tons of HST.

  1. I think going to sit and stitch sessions is a great way to meet like-minded people. When we moved here 13 years ago, we didn't know anyone, but I joined a very small local group and met people that way. Blogging is also a great way to make friends - I have some very close friends that I originally met through the internet.

  2. I understand about being shy, it is something I have worked hard against my whole life. I found a quilting group at the senior citizen center that I want to check out Wed. I think it is easier for me to be around old people then people my own age.

  3. I used to be shy, I'm not so much anymore because of Ranchman. Getting to converse with like minded people is why I started blogging to. I'm glade I found you ! Your using some great fabrics in your HSTs !

  4. I consider my self to be shy and a home body. I make myself go out to different things and I have grown because I have taken the step to do new things. I think you will really enjoy hanging out with other quilters.
