I Like Thursday 2

I had a bit of an easier time this week finding things I like.

Walking in the woods on a beautiful autumn day.  I took the boys to a scouts JOTA (Jamboree on the Air).  The Toledo Mobile Radio Association (HAM radio club) set up at Camp Miakonda in Sylvania, Ohio.

The colors of the changing leaves, and the sun filtering through.

I like how poison ivy grows such thick vines they almost look like small tree trunks twisting and turning finding its way to the sun.

I like history and adore it when I see old WPA buildings.  This is the Council Lodge at Camp Miakonda.  It is an octagonal building.

I enjoyed the HAM radio exhibition.  The gentlemen were great with the boys.  Some specialized in Morse code, others helped the boys make contact with people all over the world.  We also did a "fox hunt" --one of the men hid a transponder in the woods.  We then used a radio to help locate the transponder.  We ended up doing it twice, the boys enjoyed doing it so much.

I like that the boys have been working at rebuilding their play fort.  The original fort that Jeff and my dad built, and Jeff and I added onto had blown over on March 8, 2017 during a severe windstorm.  (The same day Jeff was killed).

The roof cannot be salvaged, but they have built ladders, a new bridge from one structure to the other.  Add  climbing wall, and added a space for their trapeze on the swing structure.  Any building materials they come across are fair game for use in the play fort.  The other day I spied solar yard lights.

I like rediscovering the "old me".  The fearless woman that packed up her youngest daughter, and moved 2,400 miles across the country to take a job.  The woman that is brave enough to tackle almost any job.

I put shelves up in the barn to put up the power tools which were all over the place.

I designed and attempted to build a portable design wall for guild a couple of weeks ago, so that I could display the challenge quilts. I figured it out in my wee brain.  I purchased PVC pipe and elbows and Ts.  I measured and figure out the dimensions and figure out how to use the radial arm saw in the barn.

I sewed 5 yards of flannel and came up with this.  It worked alright.

I like that I am going out of my comfort zone.  I signed up for Pineapple Saturday.  Bring a potluck dish with pineapple in it.  Bring a pineapple quilt project.

I grew up in Oregon.  We are talking mild climate, but I think it is a bit too cool for Hibiscus to grow.  I like that in Michigan Hibiscus grow during the summer.  This one was at the county fair a couple of months ago.  I could not get over how big it was, almost as big as a dinner plate.

Finally I love this little face.  It has brought me laughter and smiles once again.  I love these little toes.

I like feeling like smiling, even with everything else going on in my life, and in this world.

  2. When my grandson came back home to live, he brought with him a rescued Min Pin. Gosh I love that little dog. I told Terry just yesterday that he makes me happy. Congratulations on all of the projects you have been doing on your own. I think of you often as I try to take over some of the responsibilities that Terry can no longer take care of. It's good to see that you have been busy and doing things you enjoy as well.

    Happy weekend. Hug your puppy.
    xx, Carol

  3. Oh, I forgot. I have a Hibiscus like yours. It IS as big as a dinner plate. I have a pic somewhere with my face next too it to show how big it is. I love all forms of Hibiscus and have Rose of Sharon all over my yard.

  6. Good Morning Colette!
You found a lot of likes for today! I am sorry for the struggles you've had and are facing. You are strong and bright - that design wall is perfect! I wonder what pineapple dish you are bringing to the potluck? Is that little puppy Bobbin? Look how sweet he is sleeping away on his comfy bed. He brings a smile to my face and I can't even enjoy the puppy kisses. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  10. That looks like it was a neat event to take the boys to, and in such a beautiful place! Our boys (grown-ups now) were in Scouting and had so many great experiences along the way. Good for you for figuring out how to make and do things! Fun picture of your puppy, too!

  11. Hubby made me a pvc quilt frame last year, but, I hadn't thought about using it as a design wall. Maybe I'll make a hanging design wall to put on it.

  15. Hi Little ol you, what a woman! What a wonderful post which I read with great interest. You are indeed fearless and what satisfaction you must have when you accomplish so much.
Sometimes the big things in life have to be taken care of before we can really enjoy the little things.
    Love your little dog!
