I Like Thursday #49

Sorry I am a wee bit late to the show today.  I have had a busy last couple of days, and lost track of time, and a wee bit of confusion about what day it was, and I am essentially single, and alone.  My kids are adults.  I am still trying to figure out how there are days I am busier than I ever was when I was working full time.  I then wonder how did I ever get anything accomplished then?

Oh well I digress...Welcome to my 49th week of I like Thursday, thanks to LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color for encouraging us to find something each week that is positive, and we like.

I like that even before the first day of winter and the winter solstice I have been getting bombarded with seed catalogs.  Leafing through and thinking about what you want to plant moves your head from the long, cold, dark, gray days to thinking about spring, and the new growing season, the smell of freshly turned soil.

I like to repurpose things, and I saved all of the packing paper that has came the past few months.  I used it to wrap Christmas gifts.

I smile thinking of the song My Favorite Things....brown paper packages tied up with string....

I like this baker's twine.  I used it to hang Christmas Cards, and tie up my Christmas packages.

I love this bookmark that I received at the guild Christmas party.  I always need a bookmark!

Finally I love Bobbin's new toy I picked out for her for Christmas.  This guy has had a lot of play the last couple of days.

The downside to all the play?  We have caused a wee bit of destruction doing it.  The chipmunk was flung, it hit a crystal clock that fell over on the glass TV stand that we inherited from the great aunt and uncle, and the TV stand actually chipped a shard of glass off!  Anything breakable is now moved to prevent further breakage hopefully.

Now head over to LeeAnna's to see links to other I Like Thursday posts.

  1. Oh, sorry to hear there was a casualty to Bobbin's fun. JUst like dogs...we had to be careful with daughter's black lab, Abbie, when she gets too excited the Christmas tree could be compromised!
You reminded me about one of my grandmothers who always saved brown paper...in those days everything bought at the tiny little outport store was carefully wrapped in brown paper and tied up with string. She found lots of uses for it including drawing her patterns for hooked mats. THanks for reminding me. Enjoy your busy/or not too busy time now.

  2. Sorry about the breakage, but isn't it fun to watch them fling their toys around?

  3. wow, Bobbin has quite an arm, er, neck? What a shock to see it flying toward the clock so fast and couldn't stop it!
Seed catalogues... growing things... one of life's pleasures. Planning new projects. there is just something about red and white twine/string... i love it too.

  4. One of my favorite songs from the movie, it was on recently. What a great bookmark! Always nice to have a "real" one. I find I'm using little scraps of paper a lot of times. Sorry to hear about the broken table. Hope you get to relax a bit and enjoy your weekend.

  6. Oh dear with Bobbin's antics! That is a gorgeous bookmark. At this time of the year it is easy to lose track of time!

  7. I know what day is it again? I think a Tues holiday is worse than a Monday one. Bobbin has some power eh? That bookmark is fun.

  8. I have to ask myself daily what day it is! It's especially a problem when Christmas is on a Tuesday, but the next day feels like a Monday. Lol, very confusing! I love your brown paper packages - such a good idea - and also a favorite song of mine! Enjoy those seed catalogues. I know it won't be long until I'm looking for the green shoots from my bulbs to be popping up.

  9. Hope you got all the glass cleaned up. Stuff happens. I'm fixing to go back to work, and will have even less time then.

  10. Oh my gosh, I'm the same way. So is the Husband. Every day, so it seems, one of us is saying something like "How did it get to be 3:00?" The other day a friend said, "I can hard wait until it's my time for renewal." That's what she calls this sweet thing called retirement. :-)

  11. h dear-so sorry about the broken items. You kids. I too have been busier retired than working. Today I'm finally taking a "down day" from child care and running around. I'm likin the red/white string for many uses. Happy New Year. mary
