I Stamped and Survived!

I survived my first blog hop, and actually managed to answer every comment!  Unless they were anonymous or a no reply blogger.

Today was a free day for me and so i thought I would work on my Farmer's Wife quilt today.

This is Night and Day.  Thank goodness for the paper piecing pattern, or I don't know if I would have managed this one.  Even paper piecing I struggled trying to get the points to match up but I finally called it good enough and started on the next block.  But then was distracted with the minions, and DH, and grocery shopping for a last minute 4th of July barbeque.

Pat Sloan is having a July Sew Every Day Challenge.  I thought that would be a good way for me to focus a bit more this month.  Even if it is for only 5 minutes.

July 1-  Barn for Quilty Barn Along you can see it in this post.
July 2-  2 Farmer's wife blocks which you can review here.
July 3-  1 Farmer's wife block Night and Day which you can see above.

Oh and by the way Happy Independence Day!

Put a Stamp On It

Hooray today is my day for the Put a Stamp On It blog hop.

A great big hug goes out to Madame Samm for hosting and Thearica from Pigtales and Quilts  for being our cheerleader.

Here is today's line up:

When I saw this blog hop I thought it may be interesting, but then committing was very tough for me.  I finally stamped in with both feet.

Sorry about the pictures.  Days and days of sun and humidity with storms in the evening and the day I want to take pictures, we are having torrential downpours so pictures were taken in the sunroom.
I came up with two ideas. The first project I saw these very cute pincushions called the Square Deal pincushion.  I wanted something similar but with my own spin.

I created my Portland stamp pincushion.

I grew up outside of Portland, Oregon in a small town called Gresham.  How I ended up in the Midwest still amazes me. (That is a whole other story!)  Portland is called "The City of Roses"  there is even have a Rose Festival every year with a grand floral parade, Rose Festival Princesses and a Queen chosen from the High Schools within the City of Portland, a milk carton boat race, just to name a few of the fun activities. The festival has been going for over 100 years.

I used the pattern for the square deal, but made mine a wee bit larger. I found this great pattern for the fabric roses at Calamity Kim.  One turned out cute, but the other I messed with too much and so it didn't turn out as cute.  The stamp is 5 cents because that was the price of a stamp the year I was born in Portland Oregon. Portland, Oregon, and the .05 cents were embroidered with one strand of embroidery floss, the edge was finished with a "fancy stitch" on my sewing machine, and the pin cushion was filled with shredded scraps of batting, and chick grit.

My other idea was another mug rug to match the one I made for DH for father's day.

I used some John Deere fabric which I have waiting for a special project,  my newly acquired skills with my EZ Dresden ruler, and printing on fabric to create this stamp.  My new hometown is Carleton, Michigan which is south of Detroit.  I share an old farmhouse which was built by my DH's great, great grandfather a 150 years ago, that is before the Civil War!  I stuck with my 5 cent stamp and used the John Deere colors of green and yellow using tiny scraps from my stash.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope you enjoyed the hop so far.  To celebrate my first blog hop, and my 100th blog post I am going to give away a $10 gift certificate from The Fat Quarter Shop.  Leave a comment with a way to contact you and a random winner will be selected on July 5th.

Farmer's Wife

Over the past couple of days we have received buckets of rain. To the point where our field, gardens, orchard are flooded.  After a couple of weeks of  high 80's weather with 75% humidity and nightly thunder storms and rain we had a cool down.  What came with it?  We got about 2 inches of rain in the evening which flooded everything.  I can't seem to get my garden, or berry patch weeded but I did get a bit of sewing done today.

I did two farmer's wife blocks.

The Big Dipper

and Periwinkle

I actually paper pieced this one.  I am pleased with the way that it turned out.  My paper piecing is improving greatly.

Today is day 5 of the Put a Stamp on it blog hop.  Here is the line up for today.  Check it out.

Happy sewing!

Yehaw!

Just a quick post.  Yehaw!  I am all caught up with the Quilty Barn Along from Bee In My Bonnet.
What else am I up to?  I got this yummy red fabric.  It is Moda Bella Solid and is called  Chinese Red.  It is the perfect red that I am going to use to make my Drunkard's Path Quilt.

I can't wait to work on it, but I think I am going to work on my Jewel Box quilt first.

July Goals

Don't you just love to make goals?  I am not super organized in some areas of my life, but others I am spot on.  Putting goals in writing helps keep me on track.

July goals

1.  Work on the quilting for the Ginger Rose

2.  Work on my jewel box quilt.  4 blocks this month

3.  Get some more farmer's wife quilt blocks completed.  8 blocks this month
4.  I am going to finish my curtains for my family room!

5.  Work on my country charmer I want to complete at least 2 blocks

6.  Get caught up with the Lazy Sunday Morning Mystery quilt

What else will I get accomplished?  Who knows.  I have jury duty for the next two months, so it is kind of putting a cramp in my work schedule and with the garden, and everything else.  Whatever I get done is just going to be a big huge plus.

What are you working on this month?

We are in the homestretch for the Put a Stamp On It blog hop over at Sew We Quilt!

July 1
( Happy Canada Day to our Canadian Friends)

Go check it out!

Where did June Go?

Can  you believe it that June is finished and this is July?  So how was your month?  Did you get somethings accomplished?  Um yeah  I crashed and burned like you would not believe! But I did a bunch of fun new things way out of my normal comfort zone and had an absolute blast.

Unfortunately I missed the link up to Carrie over at A Passion for Applique to show my finishes for June. I am going to call it a solid 2.

My goals were simple, until life happened.  :D

1.  At least work on the quilting of my ginger rose quilt.  I got about one block done.  Then it got hot, and I did not have the patience to wrestle with that huge quilt through my domestic machine.  It is cooler now, and so I think I am ready to tackle it again.  So yes I did work on it a bit I can put a check by it!!!

2.  No family room curtains but I have a super cute tractor to throw into the mix, and a new barn with a silo and some awesome ideas.  Now just to implement them.

No these are not the ones for the curtains but you get the idea.

3.  No work on the yellow brick road quilt.
4.  This one I accomplished and am most proud of.  My first real foray into paper piecing.

Now to just get this one sandwiched and quilted.

What other fun stuff did I do this past month?  Oh I know!

We welcomed my newest nephew Pablo Frederick Beck to the world.  He weighed in at a whopping 10 lbs 4 oz, and was 22 inches tall and has a cranium of 15 1/2 inches.

I made my DH a mug rug for father's day and tried some new techniques. Photo printing on fabric, and a dresden plate.

Some major rearranging of my sewing room, and the documenting of more UFO.
Played with a curve master presser foot and experimented with some of these babies to make a drunkard's path quilt.

And made my DH sweet cheese pierogis for the first time.
Finally I went way out of my comfort zone and committed to a blog hop.  The Put a Stamp on it Blog Hop is in progress over at Sew We Quilt!
