I Like Thursday #66

I guess better late than never, right?  I can't even begin to say I am fashionably late today.  I was just too dang tired to write a post the night before, and got a late start this morning.  Thanks to the beautiful LeeAnna for encouraging us to writ a post weekly about things around our world that we like.  To check out the other I Like posts head over to Not Afraid of Color.

I awoke this morning to a thunderstorm.  I love laying in bed listening to the rain on the old steel roof of my house, it is so soothing.

I am thankful, and oh so grateful for screens.  I love to have my windows and doors open during the summer.  This morning I was especially thankful!

See all those black spots?  No it isn't that my screen is "just that filthy".  Those are mosquitoes.  Hundreds of mosquitoes!
Right now I am thankful they are outside, and I am inside. We don't use many chemicals, even though I do spray my fruit trees, but we do fog for mosquitoes otherwise being out of doors is just miserable.

I like that the azalea I planted 3 years ago finally bloomed.

It reminds me of the one near my grandmother's front porch.  She called it a honeysuckle but now I am older I know the difference.  The one near my grandmother's porch the flowers had freckles though.  But still I have loved and nurtured this little plant.

I like Bobbin's toy, even though it scares the bejeebers out of me occasionally.  Bobbin has been known to fling a toy, and smack people in the face with these toys.  My girlfriend who was over the other day was the latest recipient of a flying squirrel in the face.  LOL

Finally I like these two little ones.  Well they aren't quite so little now.  They love people, and they

love Dolly the pig.  They don't even mind Bobbin being in the yard to play.

Now head over to LeeAnna's to see the other I Like Thursday posts!

  1. Good Morning, Colette ... I am late so you are early. Time is always regional. My mother called every blooming bush in our yard "honeysuckle" except for her lilacs. I finally learned the real names of some of them as an adult. Recently I learned that one of them really is a kind of wild growing weed that is indeed in the "honeysuckle" family. The more I learn the more I learn I did not know. Names of plants and things are regional, too. Thank you for the smiles today. Happy Thursday ... :) Pat

  4. Yikers--talk about being lousy with mosquitoes!! I thought we had a lot, but you win--but: is that a win? ;000
    I think not...
Anyway--I am thinking maybe what I have growing in our dingle isn't honeysuckle after all..I've never seen an azalea in that colorway--so pretty...is it scented like honeysuckle is? Evenings when the breezes blow we can smell the scent on our deck--just heavenly...

  5. You posted before I arrived - so that's not late at all! ;-) Ah, thunderstorms. But I'll pass on all those mosquitoes and the flying squirrel (although that made me laugh!).

The honeysuckle/azalea is pretty. A rose is a rose by any other name right?

  7. I love the sound of a thunderstorm and rain on the roof! Around here it's rare to wake up to them, though - they are usually later in the day. All those mosquitos are really something - probably because you guys have had so much rain? Your azalea is so pretty!

  8. I love a good thunderstorm too. We seldom ever have them here, but when I visit the Midwest I am always hoping to get one.

  11. What a delightful post. Flying squirrels even. hee hee Even tho I live in the desert, we have monsoons in the summer and lots of deadly mosquitoes. No, it's not dry heat contrary to tourists. So, the last few -maybe 10 -years I've kept large lavender plants in pots by the front door because I swell up from the bites(Does everyone?). Anyay, that has worked for me and we haven't dad any mosquitos. If you wanted to- you could mix lavender oil with water in a spray bottle and spray the screens- my daughter has a partially enclosed front door so we spray the porch frequently for flies and mosquitoes. We don't want to use chemicals near areas Thomas will be in. The back yard is a different story. Have a great weekend. mary
