Tiny Accomplishments

 Lately the only time I post is for I Like Thursday and sometimes I really struggle to have anything worthwhile to share.  But I have been making tiny accomplishments.  My whine is, with as much as I work it is really tough to get a whole lot accomplished, and lately either I only have 1 day off a week or if I have 2 they are split, so those days are filled with housework, yard work, etc. I have been trying to accomplish a small task every day lately though. 

I recently shared that I finally hung up my Transformation quilt.

I had seen a post somewhere, where someone had used an old  yardstick as a way of holding quilts.  I thought it was fabulous, and guess who owns some old yardsticks?  

I put up the yard stick.  How fitting, I worked for GM for years, and I love that it is advertising for the 1965 Chevrolets.  I have another for a local farm implement store which is many years old too.  

Then had to order some hangers.  I 💓 Amazon they have almost anything you want.  I ordered a box of these hooks.  

 There were 50 in the box so will have plenty of use. 

I then chose the quilt to hang.  I decided on my patriotic table runner.  It was a kit from a Freedom Bound Quilt Shop.  

 I can change out the quilts easily which is nice.

 I ordered 2 hand forged hooks to put up an old rolling pin.  The great aunt told me that her great, great, great grandfather had hand carved it and it was a family treasure.  

 I bought a neat little tray a few years ago, and searched for a way to hang it on the wall.   

I found a neat easel like wall hanger for small plates and trays.  I had to readjust my cluster of stuff, but I am happy with it overall.  

I finally hung up my Velocipede quilt.

I made a cute little mug rug for a friend recently. 

Then added a cute little pin.

Hopefully it cheered her up a wee bit.

I finished my grand daughter Karena's Christmas Stocking Cuff.  I think I am finally caught up.  

I had shipped this off to my mother for her to do her part.  Someday I need to get a picture of all the stockings hung at my mother's house.  Every member of the family is represented, I think.  

I have been working on the Flower Delivery Quilt.  

I only have 20 blocks to make for one section.  Three of the one above in 4 different colorways, and 2 of the ones below in 4 different colorways.  

I still have 8 more to make.  

I have been cutting fabric for a quilt called Absolute Autumn.  

I decided to buy their kit, and love the colors and fabrics.  I have a few more pieces to cut then I can begin sewing.  

I worked up this quick applique piece I saw online.  

Now to stitch the applique down.  I am slow at that.   

I finished the embroidery on this piece which was part of the 2019 Row by Row.  I bought this one in Brownsville, Oregon.

I didn't like all the fabrics in the little kit, so I went digging through my 30's scraps and I am very happy with the way it has turned out.  I now need to quilt it.  I am trying to figure out the color to use for the binding.  

I made this small piece and got it quilted up recently i t is called Vintage Glory.  It is going to be a pillow.  

I am also prepping this piece to sew down the applique'.

It is a wall hanging.  

I have some other small things going on but I will save those for another day.

 

 

I Like Thursday #124

 I was prepared for today, honest.  I had even had photos.  My troubles started with doing a factory reset on a tablet.  I then downloaded my e-mail, and sent myself a file I wanted on the tablet.  Lets just say that it took me 5 hours to figure it all out.  

Anyway welcome to my 124th I like Thursday post.  Come and enjoy some positive things that a group of awesome bloggers share weekly, thanks to LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color for encouraging us to find things to like and love during the week and share to throw some positive out into the universe.

I like the new heat grate I bought for the kitchen.  The old one with the adjustable louvers was just plain ugly.  I don't shut the heat off or the air off in the kitchen ever, so that function was pretty much useless.

I had accidentally dropped something on the heat register and so pulled it up to clean it.  I decided it was too far gone.  

I ordered this one and it arrived in just a couple of days.  I love it!  I think the bathroom may be my next replacement.  

I struggle to keep my storm door on the back porch closed.  It doesn't seem to want to stay latched.  The bad thing is Bobbin escapes sometimes and it is not safe for her.  I replaced he strike plate.  

The only difference between the old strike plate and the new strike plate is that it is about a 1/4 inch bigger.  But it helps a bit.  Bobbin cannot escape as easily at least.  

Fall is bearing down on us.  Lots of fun fall stuff at the store.

I love that one.  The power of positive thinking.

For those of us that are hard core coffee drinkers. 

Being strong.  There are days lately,  I know I am strong, but I know I am tired too.  

I had a good week of reads.  

My first pick is Survival of the Fritters by Ginger Bolton.

Perhaps it is because I can relate to Emily.  Being a widow, the donuts.  It was a great read, and the culprit that killed one of the Knit Pickers a regular at Deputy Donuts was a real surprise.  Did you know that there is a genre of literature for widows?  

The 2nd pick of the week is The Boy from the Woods by Harlan Coben. 

There is so much going on with this book I can't even begin to describe it.  I will say I couldn't put it down.  Well worth the read.

I Like Thursday #123 a Wee Bit Late

 I don't know if I mentioned that recently if I do manage to have 2 days off during the week, they are split.  So I feel like I am in a constant fog as to what day it is.  I know in the back of my wee brain last night as I was doing dishes, and prepping an applique piece I thought, I think I need to write an I Like Thursday post.  Um yeah, obviously that thought flit right out of my head the two times it wandered through.  

My first task did I have anything I liked this week?  

Well I like my egg brush my daughter purchased me to help clean eggs.  They can come in pretty dirty.  This neat little brush looks tough, but the bristles are a soft plastic and just right for scrubbing dirty eggs.

This sink, is usually full of eggs to wash, then carton.  It is about all this sink is useful for because it is shallow.  Someday I will get a new cabinet and install a farmhouse sink which is a wee bit more user friendly.

I ran to the feed store and saw this wind chime I thought was pretty.

I liked the pretty flowers on the butterfly.  

I got a chuckle out of these dog costumes I saw at the store.

The unicorn with wings was cute.  

I thought Bobbin was more princess like.  

My favorite though was the mermaid.  But my daughter says that Bobbin doesn't have the figure to pull off a mermaid costume.  ROFL.  Our main comment though was if it is on the dog, the seashells would be underside of the dog's body. 

Bobbin and one of the pigs had a row the other day at my daughters, and so Bobbin got put into timeout in the she shed.

Doesn't she look remorseful?  My daughter takes her down for company when I am working during the day, not for company for my daughter, but company for Bobbin.  But occasionally she is not a polite visitor and this happens.  BTW there are some likes here.  1.  Bobbin gets to be with people throughout the day, bored dogs can translate to destructive dogs.  2.  She looks so dang cute.

Obviously Bobbin gets over her sulk pretty quickly when the humans join her and she can stretch out between 2 foot stools.

I like that our rodent problem is getting better because of these two.  They wander between the barn and the houses.  Most of the time girl is at my house, and boy is at the other house.  But occasionally they are together.  Today they were grooming, because having clean ears is very important for tracking the wee mousies!

The oldest grandson turned 13 the other day.  I remember helping that kid make an entrance into this world.  

A boy and his cat.  Haze and Xander are almost inseparable.  If you remember a while back the picture of him holding the tiny kitten?  It was Haze.

I had to share a pic of Xander's birthday cake.

I chose the design, he chose chocolate cake with buttercream frosting.  

Ever see an image and it is just too cute?  Well I thought this kind of looked like Bobbin, and I love the glasses.  It was a graduation card I think.  

I liked this fabric panel.  It is by Sweetwater for Moda and has some awesome inspirational sayings.

The instructions are to simply quilt and bind each panel to create four mini quilts.  

I saw this and had to share.  I know it is an advertisement but watching it was amazing. 
 

The ideas humans come up with to create beauty is astounding.  

Unfortunately I had some real duds for my books this week.  The only one I am willing to share, which is because it is a fast, fun read is Avalanche the 2nd in the Sheriff Bo Tully series by Patrick McManus.

I Like Thursday #122

 Welcome to my 122nd I Like Thursday post.  Weekly a group of us share things we have found during the week which make us smile, are uplifting, or just plain fun.  LeeAnna of Not Afraid of Color is our intrepid leader, and encourager during these trying times.  

Another week has flown by, I enjoy the cooler evenings in the yard swing, sometimes watching the sunset.  Listening to the chickens, watching the butterflies, hummingbirds, and swallows flit around. 

I smile when I look at the swing because Jeff's hat still hangs there which he lost the day before he died.  It had blown off his head while he was working outside.  It showed up a few days later, I picked it up and hung it on the swing and there it has been for over the past 3 years through rain, snow, wind, and sun.  

I like my new toaster.  I had an old one that was here when I moved in.  Most of the time my bread didn't fit into the toaster so you either had half a toasted piece of toast, or  you flipped it and the middle was a little too toasted for my liking.  My new toaster is of course, red, and works awesome.

I like when I find belongings that have been stored away for a long time.  I found my Himalayan Salt candle holder.  I love the glow when a tealight is lit within.

I like the planting baskets I found on sale recently.  They are lined with plastic so they can be used outside.

They are also a good size to hold my wash cloth yarn.

I needed some embroidery floss to begin a new project and so went to Hobby Lobby.  I saw this measuring bowl and thought it was gorgeous.

I have been seeing pictures that hang over the toilet, a lot lately.  This one really made me smile, especially after the recent toilet paper shortage.

I like that I finally took the time to hang up my wall hanging I made a couple of years ago.  Funny how small chores can get pushed aside and it actually only takes 5 minutes here or there to get them done. 

I like this shirt which I purchased recently.

I loved this video I found.  CGI (computer generated imagery) is awesome.  

 

I have seen this painting before but was unsure of the name or who painted it.  The artist is Hieronymus Bosch and the title of the painting is The Garden of Earthly Delights.  It is a triptych painted between 1490 ad 1510.  You can read more about it at Hieronymus Bosch, and see the painting,

 

There is a musical score written on some of the figures back and buttock and a musician has transcribed it.  The video is titled Butt Music. 

 

 Finally the books I have enjoyed this week are A Hoe Lot of Trouble by Heather Webber.

Nina Quinn owns a very successful landscaping business.  Her specialty is a one day yard makeover.   Too bad her personal life isn't going as well.  Nina has discovered her husband Detective Kevin Quinn has been cheating on her, and he has left her to deal with his teenage son Riley Quinn, and the fall out of the separation.  Add into the mix, a plea by one of her oldest friends to investigate her father in law's death and life quickly spins out of control.  I enjoyed this book and will look forward to reading the next in the series.

The other recommendation is Murder in the First Edition by Lauren Elliot.  Addie Greybourne is acclimating to her new home, her book shop is doing well, and she has just donated a rare 1st edition Charles Dickens A Christmas Carole to the hospital for a silent auction.  When Addie takes a certificate of authenticity to the hospital, she finds the book missing, and the head of the fund raising auction dead.  Throw in her deceased fiance's father Jonathan Hemingway blowing into town on a storm, with his womanizing ways and Addie is caught up in solving the murder and her favorite suspect is Jonathan Hemingway.  This is the 3rd installment of the Beyond the Page Bookstore Mysteries.
