Monroe County Quilt Guild- A Celebration of Quilts Part 3

These are the quilts which were on the wall at the show.

These were the 2017 MCQG Challenge which was a combination paint chip challenge.  They had to use their paint chip colors and make a basket.

2018 MCQG challenge was words on quilts.  They could use one word, a poem whatever they chose.  The quilt just had to have a word on it.  They could use a preprinted panel, embroidery, applique', piecing.  The piece had to be bigger than 12 inches on a side but not larger than 36 inches on a side.

I worked all 3 days of the show.  Set up, during the show 2 days talking about charity quilts.

A lot of the fabric we have is donated.  While it is wonderful to get fabric for free, we get a lot of floral fabrics.  We make gurney quilts for the VFW where we meet.  The VFW ships the quilts overseas and they are used to cover military injured in the field, and transport them home.  We hope they keep them and appreciate them.  We also all know I hate to throw fabric away.  While creating kits, after cutting 10 inch squares, 6 1/2 inch squares, 5 inch squares, 4 inch squares 2 1/2 inch strips I was keeping the strings.  We have a lot of muslin, and one of our members receives a lot of muslin from her sister who is a long arm quilter so we cut 10 1/2 inch squares to make string blocks.
We made about 39 over the two days while at the show.

What is so great about string blocks is that the floral fabric gets lost and mutes!  Win/win!

Thanks for stopping by.

  4. More lovely quilts. I love the basket ones and the words ones. They are great choices for a challenge. You are right about the strings. You just don't see the florals
