I Like Thursday #59

Welcome to my 59th I like Thursday post.  Since I have been lax I have been stocking up and snapping away.  First I want to thank LeeAnna at Not Afraid of Color for encouraging us to find some things to like and share each week.

I don't watch much TV, but I will confess to binge watching 4 seasons of Outlander the past couple of weeks.
I read the original book Outlander when it came out in 2004.  I am not much into romance, but I was on vacation and needed something to read and found it in a store in Flagstaff, and thought it sounded interesting.  I have read most of the other books, and I will admit this is a series I have revisited many times.  I was filled with trepidation when they announced that they were going to make a series of it on STARZ, but I decided to give it a chance when the series premiered in 2014. I will say that Diana Galbadon, the author is a consultant so it stays pretty true to the book.  Jeff scoffed at it, so it was my guilty pleasure when he was gone.  Then one day Jeff started watching, and was sucked in and he loved it as much as I did.  I hadn't the heart to watch it after he died.  I bought the first 3 seasons and they sat on my shelf for a few months.  I finally decided to watch, and got caught up with the last season on cable.  I am going to also confess I plan on going back and watching them again with the deleted scenes and commentary next.

I love the longer days, and a new visitor that seems to have joined my merry little band of birds.

A bluebird!  When I go out, he will come and sit nearby and just stare at me.  I thought it was interesting that I hear the cardinal but don't see him.  I hear him every morning (cardinals represent our loved ones that are gone) , but when I go out to drink my coffee on the porch the bluebird (signifies happiness, hope, knowledge and enlightenment)  makes an arrival while I sit, and give thanks for the new day.

With the warmer weather comes time to sit and sun.

The kids are already haranguing about the pool.  They sat and put their feet in yesterday.

With the warmer weather out come the classic cars.  Like those of us that get older they enjoy fair weather.  This one was getting a ride to a new home.  Oh Malibu!

I was out near the garden and spotted some rhubarb pushing its way through the dirt.  Imagine my delight, but a wee bit of sadness too.  Getting the rhubarb going was a fight--poor placement, drowning, and Conan the Plant Destroyer you can read about the trials of me growing anything here in that post from many years ago.
and today after another gorgeous sunny day there were even more plants pushing through the ground, at least 9 or 10.  I just looked up, smiled and said, I know you did that for me didn't you?

Finally I am currently reading A Treacherous Curse by Deanna Raybourn.  I like a book with a mystery, adventure, a strong female character, maybe a little sexual tension and this one makes me laugh out loud.

Set in Victorian England it is a fun read for me at least.

Now head over to LeeAnna's  and see the other I Like Thursday posts.

  3. Hi Colette! Ahhh, rhubarb. I love it and haven't had any since I lived at home. My parents had a huge patch behind the garage, and I used to go pick a stalk and munch on it with a baggie of sugar. I really should plant some at this house along with some everblooming raspberry bushes. And sweet little Bobbin, enjoying the sun. {{Hugs}} Happy Thursday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne

  4. I couldn't get into the Outlander books - which is surprising, because normally I love that sort of stuff. I keep eyeballing the show, but haven't watched that, either. It looks like a nice production. Yes! I've seen the summer cars and motorcycles out lately! It's always an unexpected surprise when a bluebird stops by. How nice that yours hangs out. The Deanna Raybourn books look interesting - may need to add that to my reading list. :-)

  6. I saw a bluebird last week out on the deck, but he flew away before I could grab my phone. Didn't see any last year. I love rhubarb and fortunately have a neighbor who's willing to share. I tried growing it, but didn't have success in our clay soil.

  7. So interesting about the cardinal and the bluebird - especially that the bluebird keeps coming back each day! I've read some of the Outlander books, but have never seen the show. Glad you're enjoying it!

  8. We both watched Outlander and enjoyed it. I’ve spotted a bluebird one day and was so excited...my first and haven’t seen it since. So pretty. I can’t get over how springy everything is your way. Even rhubarb poking up! Enjoy!

  11. I love this sentence:Like those of us that get older they enjoy fair weather. Ha! It's cute the kids are already jonesing for the pool - but might be a little like wishful thinking. That rhubarb reminds me of my childhood. Sounds like you are going to have a nice crop. Joining you from I Like Thursday.
