I Like Thursday #37

Welcome to my I like week #37....I should have many more, but I am a delinquent an have been traveling.  A lot!

I lament the fact that traveling the interstate there are times I see something and I wish I could just pull over and take a picture of it.  Like all of the creative ranch entrances I saw.  My favorite was one made of old tractor parts which I spied in Nebraska.  Unfortunately it was along I-80 and not safe to stop and take a picture.

I like old roads.  This is part of the old Mt. Hood Hwy.  Love the architectural interest, how the moss is growing on it.

The diamonds in the eave with the tiny triangle window, a porch made for sitting.
I love old houses, and this one in Charlotte, Michigan caught my eye.  The fish scales around the window.   Oh be still my heart those awesome roof shingles.

Another old house that caught my eye in Charlotte, Michigan.  Loved the colors and the tower room and roof.
Coming home through Nevada on US 50 dubbed the loneliest road in America.  From Fallon, it stretches across Nevada going through towns called Eureka, Austin, and Ely.  Bobbin needed a potty break, so we pulled off and this tree was full of shoes.  In fact there is a story associated with it you can read on Atlas Obscura.

Near my brother's home is a lavender farm and at the entrance is this old car which they use as a planter.

I liked this painting I saw at a local restaurant in Charlotte, Michigan.  The barn had a barn quilt even!

Finally I will leave you with a tree I saw driving home.  I wanted to see a historic site, but unfortunately it closed at about 4 and it was about 5 but I drove out anyway.  The wind was blowing, and I was watching all of these leave swirling in the wind.  Then I realized that none of these "leaves" were hitting the ground.

All of these butterflies were in the tree, the breeze would push them off, and they would flutter and go back to the tree.

Hundreds if not thousands of them in this cottonwood tree.
I thought how appropriate to have butterflies all along on this final trip.  At my parents, at Jeff's grave, and here.  Butterflies are a symbol of transformation, and also remind you to find joy.

Now head over to Leeanna's at Not Afraid of Color and see the other I Like Thursday posts.

  1. Yes, take the message of transformation sighting all those beauties! I too love old houses and I confess to a guilty pleasure of watching youtube videos of tours of old houses. I really can't explain why I enjoy that so much. A tree of shoes and the loneliest road in America...haunting really. Thanks for this!

  4. Hi Colette! I've missed you and am glad you are still safe from your travels. Wow, those butterflies are just fabulous. I can only imagine how beautiful that tree looked all covered with them! Oh, those houses in Michigan! I used to cross stitch houses, and chart myself so the pictures you shared would have been fun ones to chart and then stitch. I hope you and Bobbin are well! Happy Thursday to you! ~smile~ Roseanne

  11. Looks like you had quite a trip! I enjoyed all the unique things you found to get pictures of. How wonderful to see those monarchs, too! We visited the monarch sanctuary in Pacific Grove, CA, the other day, but they haven't arrived there yet. We were just a bit too early!

  13. The butterflies in that tree are really cool! I've never seen that before. And the roadside sites are so fun. I dislike interstate driving for exactly that same reason (though I do plenty of it). I always feel closer to stuff driving on a state highway than an interstate even if it's a fairly big road....

  14. Wow, seeing the butterfly migration was sweet. We hardly see any Monarchs any more here in western NY. I leave the milkweed for them, but I don't think they are making it this far north any more.

  15. The lavender farm is interesting. I would love to visit that sometime! Where is it located? The butterflies on the trees are super cool! Would be a sight to see too. I also love old houses, those 2 are beauties!
