I Like Thursday #96

Welcome to my 96th installment of I Like Thursday.  Thank you LeeAnna of Not Afraid of Color for encouraging us to find positive things throughout the week to share.

Since I started working, the kids run down to the house to give Lucy some food, and let Bobbin out to potty.  If I work early mornings, they run down to feed Bobbin too, check my chickens, gather eggs.  The downside is misplaced barn keys, house keys, or doors that remain unlocked.  Normally I find the keys laying in the driveway, having dropped out of someone's pocket.  My mom suggested a combination lock.  I purchased one a couple of weeks ago, but frankly it has been too cold to have the door open long enough to install it.  Well Monday was the day.

Outside, yes there is  key in case of battery failure, but it came with a code, and an ability to set your own code.  (Wow my window glass trim in the door needs some serious help with the caulk.)

The inside, can you see where my grimy paws have been working on the door open, close, open, close?  I think that I may need to paint my door, inside and out.  They say to paint your door a color that when you see it, it makes you happy.

I do buy real books occasionally.  I don't venture to many bookstores, but occasionally I have a book I want to read, I don't want to buy it from Amazon, but I buy them from Alibris.   At one time many of the books were from libraries, but I have noticed they also have small bookstores too and when I can get a book for 99 cents and then a couple of dollars for shipping, and they have several books I want to read, I feel like it is a win.

I introduced B Rad a couple of weeks ago.  B Rad was being bullied by Cheech.   Sam and I had talked about perhaps taking some of the broody hens and having them try to hatch some chicks.  So Cheech and a couple of the girls have moved into the chick/brood house. I now wake up to him crowing in the morning.

He is quite a handsome fella really. Now to keep the kids from collecting eggs.  LOL Kind of defeats our purpose.

I know many of you have your sweethearts and perhaps planning something for Valentine's Day.  I saw these M & M bags and they made me laugh.

They say all sorts of funny things.

As I was thumbing through the April 2020 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting I noticed an advertisement for a Gammill.  I took the time to go to the website and read the story.  Go check out The Combat Quilter. Follow him on Facebook, he is very inspirational.

My book of the week is Dark Pattern book 4 of the Naturalist series by Andrew Mayne.  Doctor Theo Cray is a mathematician that has happened to discover serial killers by using scatter diagrams and anomalies.

Theo is chasing a serial killer, an "Angel of Mercy" but he doesn't have just one, he discovers he has two and they overlap.  Chasing this killer takes Theo over the edge, to the point where he loses everything, his lab, his mentor, and his girlfriend Jillian.

Now head over to LeeAnna's and check out the other I Like Thursday Posts.

  2. Hi Colette! Gosh, how fun it that to come home to the door being open/unlocked and the keys wherever they may land?!! Sweet bobbin is worth it though. I hope she has forgiven you for starving her. Poor baby. This book looks very interesting. Math to figure out a crime - imagine that. Science is everywhere! ~smile~ Roseanne

  3. I've bookmarked Alibris to check it out later. Thanks for mentioning; though I try not to buy books, there is the odd one that I would keeep. B Rad is quite a handsome fellow. Love the idea of a combination lock...looks like just the ticket to do away with lost keys.

  11. I hope you pick a fun color for your door- I painted mine a bright cheery blue few years ago and it makes me happy every time I see it. I love my combination locks as well, I have one on the garage door (into the house) and one on my studio door. It's pretty much the only way I think I could keep things locked!

  12. I've never seen a combination lock for a door. What a great idea! I don't know much about chickens but I do know some animals pick on others. It's good thing you figured it out.The chocolate looks good!
