Why I Have UFOs and February Goals

First of welcome to day 3 of the We Support You Blog Hop

Feb 2nd

Hop over and check out these wonderful ladies creation.

Howdy my name is Colette and I create many UFOs.  I list them on a page in my blog, and as I finish them up I check them off.  Not many are checked off from the beginning of my blog in 2013.

Over the past few days I realized why I have so many UFOs.  I hate doing the trivial stuff.  Squaring up blocks, squaring up units, cutting 100's of pieces.  I love the sewing and getting it together, I love playing with the fabrics, but I just can't stay focused when it comes to the things which need to be done to make a quilt a truly great quilt.  With that being said my goals for this month.

1.  I need to square up my Farmer's Wife blocks which are finished.  I would at least like to get that finished this month, and possibly start to put the lattice around it.  I also need to decide on the setting squares. If I do just 5 a day I would be done by the end of the month having the quilt blocks squared up.

2.  Setting blocks for the 2014 Aurifil block of the month.
3.  Yellow Brick Road quilt  I would love to get this one finished up.
4.  Finish up Step 2 of Grand Illusion and maybe work a bit on step 3.
5.  My quilt group BOM.  I am about 12 blocks behind now!   There are some ladies that actually have finished their quilts.
6.  Quilting for charity quilt.
7.  Quilting for Basket Case Quilt which I almost have loaded on my frame.
8.  Maybe work on some drunkard's path blocks.
9.  Some slow stitching

I think that is a nice array of projects to keep me busy and interested.  Hopefully I won't start anything new....before I at least finish some things up.

  1. Squaring up isn't fun, but, setting those FW blocks will be so rewarding

  2. UFOs are certainly caused by us stopping at a task that we are not pleased with. it is much more fun to grab fabric and sew. that is why I always have scraps at the ready for willy nilly sewing. I then square them up and sew up a top. my problem is the quilting/finishing as my machine doesnt handle that very well. I used to hand quilt which I love to do but it takes too long to finish all the tops I start. great projects! love that woven one

  3. I find that squaring up each block as I complete it helps to get it done. It's not so overwhelming to do 1 at a time as doing 100.

When I do small block quilts, I cut all the lattice strips ahead of time and then sew each row as it is completed. That also helps to keep the enthusiasm there.

Hope you meet your goals for February.

    1. Thanks for stopping by. I really should do that instead of amassing great quantities to square up. Sometimes I will cut everything out at once but again sometimes when there are a bazillion pieces it gets boring too. I am learning to kind of get small chunks done.

  6. I'd say you have plenty lined up to keep you busy!! And they are a nice variety of different types of creativity. So hopefully you won't go snow crazy :) I can't imagine having as much snow as you've had - we've barely had half and inch, and it was gone by lunchtime LOL!!!

  7. I am so glad I am not the only one with a long list of projects to finish up! I do like your idea of a UFO page on your blog. I might borrow that idea! Your quilts all look lovely. The bottom project looks like a tractor cross-stitch? How fun!
