November Thankful Day 15

I have been church shopping.  I had began to attend a small church nearby soon after Jeff's death, and it was great, the pastor and his wife knew Jeff long before me, and I loved the pastor's messages.  The church was struggling though and they decided they could no longer keep the doors open.

I am now torn between wanting to attend a church in my small community nearby, or attending a church similar to what I grew up in, but  about 20 miles away.  I have attended both and I enjoyed both services, felt very welcome, and the pastors spoke to my heart on many levels.  I feel music is very important to a service and both had great music.  One church plays only contemporary music, another has 2 services and the early service is more traditional music, the 2nd service is mixed contemporary and traditional.  I feel that there needs to be a mix of both the contemporary and traditional....the contemporary speaks to the heart of the younger people, but if you are familiar with any traditional hymns you will realize that many of the verses in the songs are biblical references.

15.  November 15-  I am thankful that I have so many options to worship.

No these are just pictures of a church I had in my file.  I was invited to attend this church but it is about 45 minutes north of me.  Tuesday I was invited to participate in the Monroe Nazarene quilt group, they make charity quilts for Paula's House which is a place for homeless and/or substance abuse problems.  I was so thankful to be invited and I felt so accepted.

14.  November 14-  I am thankful for my Kindle and all the books that I have the opportunity to read, and the local library.  I can listen to my Kindle while sewing.  I have read over 140 books so far this year.

I recently listened to this book.  I wish I had read it years ago, it gives you a lot of insight in how people act to gain power and influence, and what they do.  Unfortunately my mind does not think in those terms.  Oh well.

13.  November 13.  I am thankful for Lucy the cat.

12.  November 12--I am thankful for Bobbin

11.  November 11  I am thankful for my tenacious character to get things done.

10.  November 10--I am thankful for fall.

9.  November 9 I am thankful for saved items.  Maybe I should call them hoarded items.

8.  November 8--I am thankful for music.

7.  November 7-- I am thankful for the Boy Scout organization.

6.  November 6--I am thankful that I can shop online.

I got my bag lady quilt blocks back this year and I have a plan to make them into a quilt.

5.  November 5--I am thankful that I could get new doors in my home to add more light.

4.  November 4.   I am thankful for coffee.

3.  November 3.  I am thankful for the roof over my head.  I love falling asleep to the rain on the standing seam steel roof which is over 150 years old.

2.  November 2.    I am thankful for the fact my feet hit the floor every morning, whether I want to get out of bed or not.

1.  November 1.  I am thankful for every morning I wake up--too many people don't get to see the light of another day.  Thinks about it how would you act if you knew that today was your last day on Earth?  Today is a gift.  Tomorrow is not promised.

  1. I too am thankful for the freedom of religion and hope that you can find you a comfortable welcoming place to worship. I love my kindle, when I can't sleep it is my babysitter until I can.

  2. I am praying that you find your church family, we have been so blessed with ours. None of us are perfect for sure but we continue to draw closer to Him.

  3. It's so good to hear that you will find solace within your church of choice;
I miss going to church with my parents...we went every week. I personally like traditional music during a service, but whatever works is good. And what i always liked best was the quiet hush times--just silence that heals....

  4. Worship music is one of the biggest dividers of the church. I like many of the praise songs, but, I also have a deep feeling for the traditional hymns. I like a nice mix, and I like to actually hold the hymnal in my hands, not just read the words off the screen. You'll find where you are supposed to be attending. As long as the church is based in the Bible, that is the most important thing, not what religion it is. Join a small group (Sunday school, etc) and get involved personally with those members. It's the best way to connect with the church and those that attend it. Good luck.
