November Thankful Day 7

I am just going to jump right into this post.

7.  November 7 I am thankful for the Boy Scout organization.  The two oldest boys lost their father last November, he died mysteriously in his sleep.  Jeff was the boys' male role model.  I couldn't have asked for a better man as an example to the grandsons.  He was hard working, kind, loving, thoughtful, responsible, respectful, generous, and fun.

Now that Jeff is gone boy scout functions give the boys an opportunity to learn, and hang out with men.  The boys had a great time at summer camp, and this past weekend we went Geocaching.

Geocaching per Wikipedia:
is an outdoor recreational activity, in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches", at specific locations marked by coordinates all over the world.
A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook and sometimes a pen or pencil. The geocacher enters the date they found it and signs it with their established code name, in order to prove that they found it. After signing the log, the cache must be placed back exactly where the person found it. Larger containers such as plastic storage containers (Tupperware or similar) or ammunition boxes can also contain items for trading, such as toys or trinkets, usually of more sentimental worth than financial.[2] Geocaching shares many aspects with benchmarking, trigpointing, orienteering, treasure-hunting, letterboxing, and waymarking.

We downloaded an app and off we went through the woods to find the cache.  There were 3 within a 1 1/2 mile hike.  Gabe and his buddy found one before everyone else.

After the event we went to take a picture of this gorgeous tree.

So I am thankful for scouts for helping the boys during this past year.   I am not thankful for their popcorn sale....oh my they have a  caramel corn with sea salt that is wickedly delish!

6.  November 6--I am thankful that I can shop online

5.  November 5--I am thankful that I could get new doors in my home to add more light.

4.  November 4.   I am thankful for coffee.   I love my coffee, I don't have to have Starbucks that is my special treat coffee, which I don't indulge in often.  Also helps I live in a rural area and the closest Starbucks are about 10-15 miles away.  I always have a pot on.

3.  November 3.  I am thankful for the roof over my head.  I love falling asleep to the rain on the standing seam steel roof which is over 150 years old.

 2.  November 2.    I am thankful for the fact my feet hit the floor every morning, whether I want to get out of bed or not.

1.  November 1.  I am thankful for every morning I wake up--too many people don't get to see the light of another day.  Thinks about it how would you act if you knew that today was your last day on Earth?  Today is a gift.  Tomorrow is not promised.

  2. Another aspect of scouting that you don't think about. How do you feel about girls in the Boy Scouts? Not a political question, just curious what an insider thinks. My grandson loves geocaching.

  7. The geocaching sounds like a lot of fun, bet the boys really enjoyed it. I've done orienteering but not geocaching. Good old Boy Scouts. I used to love Girl Guides when I was young.

  8. We've been involved with scouting, in several ways, for about 20 years now. Our Venturing crew members all went to college, so, this may be the end (at least for me). Hubby is still involved in the area level.
